我們的孩子無法合法購買煙草產品,但這並未阻止煙草商耗資數十億美元的市場營銷機器,在網路和社群媒體上以孩子為目標,推出誘騙他們以為煙草無害的產品。令人震驚的是,煙草商說我們的孩子是他們的「替代吸煙者」,因為煙草業需要會受到他們致命產品吸引的下一代客戶。

煙草商加倍致力於利用如電子煙及尼古丁口含煙袋等尼古丁產品,讓年輕人因此上癮並藉此獲利。您怎能允許煙草業讓我們的孩子終生沉迷於已知會破壞他們身心健康的產品中呢?

千萬不要被煙草商聲稱尼古丁是良性化學物質的說法所欺騙,對發育中的大腦而言,尼古丁是一種會上癮的毒物及神經毒素。它不僅被使用(並被禁止)作為殺蟲劑,而且還可以對發育中的大腦產生永久性的變化。尼古丁會導致頭痛、煩躁、噁心、嘔吐、癲癇、昏迷,甚至死亡,還會加重抑鬱、焦慮不安、學習困難、情緒起伏及暴躁易怒情況,尤其對年輕人來說更是如此。

電子煙及尼古丁口含煙袋(例如 Zyn 和 Velo)是一個巨大的問題,因為它們含有尼古丁鹽,而尼古丁鹽的設計目的是讓更高濃度的尼古丁更容易被吸收。使用煙草的加州高中生中大多數都會吸電子煙,去年尼古丁口含煙袋的使用量幾乎增加一倍。最近,兒童因意外接觸電子煙油而尼古丁中毒並導致受傷或死亡的情況更急劇驟增。

現在是打破煙草商對我們家庭和社區造成破壞循環的時刻。我們有能力為我們的孩子創造更美好的未來,而這個未來正始於防止煙草商以成癮、疾病和死亡來針對我們的孩子。我們需要您的領導來阻止青少年尼古丁成癮的流行,而當前比以往任何時候都更加緊迫。
