具有操控特性、種族主義及貪婪的煙草商,正在摧毀我所愛之人和所愛的地方。我對於這個產業所被允許造成的痛苦、死亡和破壞,以及竟能安然脫身深感憤怒。

煙草商的產品每天殘殺110位加州人,其中包括甚至不使用煙草產品的人。 每死亡一人,就代表有30人罹患與煙草相關的可怕疾病。每個人的健康都受到二手煙及電子煙的威脅,但煙草產品對於有色人種及低收入族群社區,卻具有毀滅性的影響。

以上所提及的一切,甚至尚未涉及大煙草商產品所造成的環境破壞。從微塑料到有毒化學品再到電子廢棄物,這些產品直接導致氣候變化及森林砍伐。

對於加州選民通過維護法律終止販售大多數的口味煙草產品,其中也包括電子煙及薄荷醇香煙,進而在對抗大煙草商的抗爭中邁出重要的一步,我實在深感自豪。新法能保護下一代及目標社區免受煙草商的引誘而成癮、死亡及患病。

即使我們已獲得如此巨大的成果,卻也深知大煙草商的貪婪毫無止境。過去一直以來,煙草商總會想出各種偷偷摸摸的方法,以能繞過公共衛生方面的努力付出,將自己的利潤置於大眾生命之上。

我無法再袖手旁觀,繼續眼睜睜看著煙草商摧毀我的社區,現在正是時候該終結他們所造成的毀滅性影響。
